- How does the MBC differ from other business groups?
- The Council recognizes that we are one of many organizations
representing the interests of Maryland businesses. Our purpose is
not to duplicate the role of these existing groups, but to complement
them, and through the power of partnership, to create new synergies and
find new solutions. Most importantly, we seek to create a common
policy agenda among the State’s diverse Chambers of Commerce, business
groups and trade organizations, and to serve as the fulcrum for their
combined efforts on major regulatory and legislative issues.

- Small- and medium-sized businesses face critical challenges.
Staying in business is never certain and the task is always stressful
and arduous. The obstacles are endless: finding qualified
workers, accessing affordable and dependable credit, carrying the
crushing weight of health insurance, navigating the maze of government
regulations, and bearing the burden of taxation. Most difficult of all,
small business owners often work alone and in isolation, with no one
person or group to address their issues, speak on their behalf, or help
them leverage critical partnerships.
